ALPHORN & ORCHESTRA
From the very beginning I fell in love with the sonority of the Alphorn so that I dedicated most of my time to promote this instrument and its traditions as well as repertoire.
My main intention, which I love to call “My Mission”, is to introduce this instrument mainly known for its use in sending signals throughout the Alpine valley in the Concert-Hall, just like all the other instruments, in order to give the chance to the worlwide audience to enjoy the beautiful and sensational melody of this uncommon instrument.
My principal activity is to promote the Alphorn in concert as soloist with orchestra.
My repertoire includes in addition to the original concert by Leopold Mozart many good concerts written exclusively for me for solo Alphorn and orchestra.
Yet many Artistic Directors were very enthusiastic to include this unusuall Concert Proposal in their season programming, resulting very much appreciated by their musicians, audience and media.
I have performed as a soloist with numerous symphony and chamber orchestras in Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and in occasion of the 250th Anniversary of W.A. Mozart's Birth, I played the Leopold Mozart’s Alphorn Concert at the prestigious Grosser Saal des Salzburger Mozarteums.
I would like to draw your attention on my three Alphorn Concert Proposals where, in additional to the original concerts by Leopold Mozart and Ferenc Farkas, I am glad to introduce some special works written exclusively for me by Italian composers. |

SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE WORKS |
|
|
The great Horn of Helm
“The great Horn of Helm” was written for me by Giovanni D'Aquila in 2003. It recalls epic and mystical moments and is inspired to a famous film “The Lord of the Rings” written by R.Tolkien.
After the Primiere, held in 2003 in the magical “Valle dei Templi” in Agrigento (Sicily-Italy), there were many more performances where the audience of all over the world had the chance to appreciate the atmosphere created by the Alphorn.
I have two version of this work: one for Alphorn and string orchestra and other for Alphorn and chamber orchestra.
Walpurgisnacht
Nicola Hansalik Samale is a very talented conductor and composer.
In 2003 Nicola Hansalik Samale composed for me “Walpurgisnacht” and I had the great pleasure to play the Premiere in Spain with Orquesta de Cordoba conducted by Mr. Howard Griffiths.
Mr. Samale is also the composer that has completed the Bruckner's Symphony and Mahler's Symphony and recently the "Samale Version" of Bruckner (Symphony No.9) was recorded by Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic.

Sinfonia Pastorella
Leopold Mozart wrote a number of works that involved the use of instruments less usually found in the orchestra.
He had the opportunity to hear an Alphorn and was impressed by the magnificence of the instrument, deciding to include it as soloist in his “Sinfonia Pastorella”.
The “Sinfonia Pastorella” is the very first piece of classical music dedicated to the Alphorn and, thanks to the audacity of Leopold Mozart, we now have the chance to listen to the Alphorn in a Concert-Hall.
Sinfonia Pastoritia
Anton Zimmermann was a Silesian-born composer and contemporary of Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Zimmermann spent most of his career in Bratislava, then capital of Hungary, where he worked as a composer, violinist, conductor, and artist manager.
Sinfonia Pastoritia in G Major is scored for two violins, viola, bass, two clarinos, "cuculo obligato", "tuba pastoralis obligato" and timpani. It is one of those pioneering works of the second half of the 18th century which underwent a revival in the classical period and which contributed to forming the pastorally oriented symphonic work of classicismo. |
